CHOICE - Continuous Healthcare in OsteoporosIs CasE-finding

About the project

With demographic changes, increasing health care dependency ratios, and rising prevalence of comorbidities, innovative approaches are urgently needed to sustain equitable and high-quality care.

To address these critical challenges in osteoporosis care for the elderly, CHOICE will implement the fully automated clinical decision support system, FREM_ML, to predict imminent fracture risk.

The vision of CHOICE

The vision of CHOICE is to create a paradigm shift for osteoporosis management and fragility fractures by changing from episodic case-finding to continuous, automated data-driven risk factor monitoring. This will be achieved through the implementation of FREM_ML, which enables automated and scalable risk assessment in general practice. Ultimately, this will increase length and quality of life for individuals at risk and reduce fracture-related healthcare costs.

The aims of CHOICE

Reduce the burden of osteoporosis among elderly aged 45+ years.
Improve current detection and management of individuals at high risk of osteoporosis through automated risk monitoring.
Reduce the incidence of major osteoporotic fractures (MOF) and mortality, and improve treatment persistence and use of DXA scans among elderly Danish people.
Adapt FREM_ML to Nordic countries to optimize and accurize predictions of fracture risks in Sweden and Norway.
